Please no one go into labor this weekend!

I had 2 moms who were in that 5 week window of baby could come at any time.  Life was good, it was chilly outside and the baby (ok, he is 2 years old, but he is MY baby) needed a nap.  So DH took Carson to soccer and I stayed home to enjoy a bit of quiet.  Baby napping and Devon on the computer.

DH comes home a bit earlier than expected.  I hear him say, “I’ll get the ice.”  I hear whimpering.  I go out.  Carson is on the sofa crying.  He got kicked 2 times and his leg really hurts.  Even later in the day he refuses to put any weight on it.  We call his pediatrician.   She says if he won’t bear weight on it after dinner, to take him to Urgent Care.

To make a long story short, he wouldn’t bear weight on it, we took him in and he had a broken leg.  He was pretty miserable until Monday after he got his real cast on.  But he was still homebound until we got his wheelchair, 3 days later.  Let me tell you I went about crazy calling Apria Home Care about where the wheelchair was.  They kept promising me it would get there “today” for 3 days!  Carson in his wheelchair.

The stress of being a doula when your child gets hurt

I was so hoping a mom wouldn’t start her birthing time until after we got the wheelchair.  It wasn’t easy carrying him around everywhere.  I didn’t want to have to subject anyone else to that.  Luckily the moms didn’t start their birthing time until a few weeks later.  Somehow it always seems to work out.  🙂

Sharing is caring!

  1. Aw, poor kiddo! I am glad he is ‘all set up’ now. I hope that he feels better soon and enjoys his cool accessory and hot rod while they last. lol! This is coming from a gal who had had 3 broken left arms, 2 broken right arms, a chipped growth plate in her left knee, 7 broken fingers, a hole punctured in her left eye, 1 set of mid-forehead stitches and countless sprains by the age of 10. lol! I was a tom-boy for sure.

Did you use any of the Hypnobabies scripts with him? A friend who used them had great success when she broke her toe.

  2. Awww, poor Carson. I hope he feels better soon!! I am a mom of a son, Aaron, who just broke his leg. He is on crouches and complains a lot about. Lucky you have a wheelchair for your son. What do you do for him taking a shower? We had that shower problem and boy, I can tell you, it was crazy. Using a garbage bag and duct tape took forEVER. My husband finally found out that there is a dry pro cast cover that’ll keep the cast dry. He ordered it online through drycorp.com and we used it right when it came. It works great and you might wanna consider that for Carson. It definitely saved my summer as a mom and I am very happy that someone thought about that product!!!!!!
I am very glad though that it worked out well for you. I wish you all the best with Carson and hope he recovers soon!

  4. All I can say, is I dread the day my son breaks a bone. Poor little guys. I’m also impressed with your posts on C-sections. That’s the route my wife went and its extremely calming to have this information before hand. Great blog, keep it up!
