For every mom – where an OB is trained can have a huge effect on their beliefs about birth. The training of OBs in this country is not leading to evidence based care. CHOOSE WISELY the care provider you want to attend your birth!
I find L&D nurse blogs very informative as well. People who work daily in labor and delivery see what really goes on. What OBs think about birth and how women are treated. I love this post about what one woman saw in a 7 hour shift.
VBAC moms especially have to take care!
Some OBs will say they are VBAC friendly, but in the end they prove they are not!
Some OBs just use Scare Tactics to prevent moms from even trying for a VBAC. I loved these posts covering some common scare tactics.

As someone who faced a bunch of (non-evidence-based) VBAC scare tactics with my second pregnancy–and as someone who went on to transfer to a new care provider at nearly 37 weeks before going on to have a very successful VBAC–I am not only happy but also EAGER to share what I know about challenging these scare tactics with other mothers. It’s not just your OB but the back up OB’s that matter too. I have had MY OB present for one bith, and I’ve had 6 kids. I have had three births with nurses and no doctors in the room. Sometimes it doesn’t matter what your OB thinks because you don’t see your OB for much of the management/support of labor. Other times it’s crucial because the OB makes decisions and bowls a person over.

I would be really interested to find out if people know if certain medical schools train OB’s with evidence based medicine more than others. You know I never tend to care where my docs were schooled, but it might matter if one could find out if certain schools were actually teaching evidence based medicine…of course, I see midwives anyways, so I guess it is irrelevant for me personally.
