Bees and Birth

I am not referring to the birds and the bees, I am referring to my post yesterday about saving the bees from certain death.

Sometimes I wonder if the information I share on my blog makes a difference.  Is it worth the time I take?  Am I helping moms empower themselves to enjoy their births?  That is one reason I decided to write a book, that could be shared by anyone.  I thought it would help get the information out there to more moms.

A lot of us bloggers wonder the same thing.  Does the information we share matter?

It is wonderful when we find out we DO make a difference.  But I digress, how are bees and birth related?

It is the power of sharing information.

Let me tell you about Angela.

She had two typical hospital births and was not very happy with how her births went.  When she was pregnant with her third, she was planning another hospital birth, but quite a few different moms shared with her about homebirth.

Why did they share?  I don’t know.  Maybe she told them about her previous births and how she wasn’t happy with them.  But regardless of why, they did share information with her and then she did more research and choose at around 36 weeks to have a homebirth.  She had a very positive birth experience.

My neighbor telling me about the bee relocation company helped me to realize I had more options then just killing the bees, this allowed me to do research and make a choice!   Angela didn’t even realize homebirth was an option until people started telling her.

Her story doesn’t stop there.  She soon became pregnant with her 4th baby and moved to a new town.  Her MIL urged her to not tell anyone about her homebirth plans.  (Worried they would think she was strange.) But Angela shared with anyone who was interested, she knew the power of information!

I actually met Angela at the park one day.  Noticing she was pregnant I asked if she needed a referral to an OB, you can imagine my joy when she said she was planning a homebirth.  She also had heard about Hypnobabies and was interested in learning more!  I of course shared more information and she ended up taking my class.   She had an enjoyable, comfortable homebirth using Hypnobabies.

(I will be sharing her birth video in the next few days!)

  1. Hey, I didn’t have a homebirth but after 6 doctor provider pregnancies and births in hospital I did choose a midwife for my last one. I had been reading blogs after my 16 week miscarriage. I became very interested in birth blogs. I began to read about how birth CAN be. I did read about home birth, and center birth, and different hospital births. I contacted some of the bloggers…atyourcervix and also Barb (the midwife in CA). I also contacted a local blogger in my area. I went through a terrible hospital birth though I had much information because I didn’t choose to change. It was Barb’s blog though that helped me get through that terrible birth with some small bit of control and power though I felt very oppressed (I sat up when baby was having a decel and I was flat on my back because that’s what dr. wonderful had a mom do and Barb witnessed this…I had read this only a week or two before my baby was born). After that last birth (my 6th born) I was depressed for a while but became very empowered. I got pregnant again, and this time sought out a midwife. I did birth in the hospital, but the experience was soooo very different, I had so much control of what happened in birth. I actually held my meconium stained OP/asynclitic baby right after the birth and saw her eyes right away which I never ever did before. I did not lie on my back once, no stirrups, no counting to ten while pushing…no iv…placenta pushed out by me and not pulled on…I bathed my own baby…no eye drops. Now I share my story with anyone who will listen. I hope some women will seek out a good midwife, we have choices in birth. It is so healing to have taken a small stand for myself.
