How to Have a Natural Pregnancy

Natural pregnancies are possible if the proper choices are made.  Here are some natural pregnancy tips that you may want to follow.  As with anything throughout your pregnancy, make sure to double check with your doctor before you make any drastic changes.  I was able to talk to my doctor about my birthing plan, cord blood banking options, homemade baby food and so much more.

Purchase Organic Fruits and Vegetables
Eat as many organic food choices as possible. Foods that have the most pesticides include apples, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, celery, peaches, cherries, pears, bell peppers, and nectarines. Instead, aim for vegetables and fruits with low levels of pesticides such as asparagus, bananas, avocados, cauliflower, onions, peas, broccoli, kiwi, corn, pineapples, and mangos. During pregnancy, also try to avoid fish high in mercury and meats that are high in fat. Toxins can enter the baby’s nervous system and cause hormonal damage in the fatty tissue.

Drink Pure Water
Pregnant women should drink fresh water out of glass and not plastic cups to avoid toxins entering the body. All water should be filtered through a PUR or Brita filter for all water.

Pay Attention to Bathroom Health
Install a shower filter for your shower. Toxins can enter your skin and harm your baby. Also, do not use shower curtains made of PVC. The plastic is not safe for the baby. Vinyl is also not safe for the baby because it contains phthalates.

Use Earth-Friendly Cleaning Supplies
Try using vinegar and lemon instead of bleach and ammonia. Vinegar has some antimicrobial properties and will kill mold. Hydrogen peroxide and table salt is also an effective natural cleaner, but it is not as effective as bleach. In general, pregnant women should have a friend clean, but the residuals from the bleach and ammonia can still affect a pregnant woman. Find the best solution that will not put your unborn baby at risk.

Use Cast Iron
Pregnant women can sometimes have iron deficiencies. They should use cast iron to help with the deficiency and avoid nonstick or Teflon pans. These pans are known to cause cancer. Pans made of stainless steel and glass are better options over Teflon.

Get Rid of Harmful Beauty Products
Get rid of the Clearasil and alpha hydroxy-based cleansers and buy organic products. Use fruit-based facial masks. Buy polish with few chemicals and remove nail polish with the least amount of chemicals.
