Trust Birth – Lunch and Dinner

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

There was a Dinner Friday night honoring some amazing birth workers!  I went and the food was amazing and the honorees and speakers were great.

Dr. Fischbein – OB who supports moms CHOICES!

Dr. Fleiss – great pediatrician who supports moms CHOICES!

Marilyn Milos – intact boys advocate – she made me see very clearly circumcision is an un-necessary cosmetic surgery we do to baby boys when they are days old.  a COSMETIC surgery!  Crazy when you think about it like that.

Gloria Lemay – amazing normal birth advocate in Canada

Sarah Buckley – amazing normal birth advocate in Australia

It was a lovely dinner and I learned a lot.  I loved the ladies I sat with too.

There was a Lunch on Sunday

I got to sit at Gloria Lemay’s table and get to know her better.  She is on the Independent Childbirth Yahoo Group I am on.  It was inspirational talking with her.  :)

Trust Birth Conference – Networking

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

I met so many amazing women!

It was fun to connect with women I knew from online groups.  That is always great, to put a face with a name.  It was great going to lunch with you gals from Independent Childbirth!

It was fun to meet women I knew from before!

It was fun to meet new women too.  It was funny how so many of us from the EFT workshop, kept running into each other, or connecting up throughout the conference.  We were drawn to each other maybe?

Anyway, I hope to keep in touch with the lovely ladies I met and we can continue to inspire each other as we work to serve pregnant moms!

Trust Birth – Sessions

Monday, March 15th, 2010

There were so many amazing speakers, it was hard to choose what sessions to attend!  I ended up doing a lot of personal/professional growth things.   I can’t even remember everything, it is all blended together as an amazing overall experience.

I loved the body information I learned. -Jeanne Ohm – How pelvises work and it is so important for moms to be aligned.  I am certainly going to emphasize the importance of chiropractics to my pregnant moms more.   I do love that I got some easy things I could do to see if a mom needs to be adjusted.

I love Sarah Buckley.   She has such amazing information about hormones and how they all work together to ensure mother and babies survival!  Her book Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering is amazing.  I got an autographed copy.  :)

I took a class on sharing my birth business and how important it is to be honest and trustworthy.  I learned about fear and birth (which I have quite a few posts that I wrote before the conference I will be posting in the next few days)  But I love this topic, it is so important today that moms find a way to deal with their fears before birth.

There was a class on Doula Tips and being a midwife without burnout by Jodilyn Owen.  I love her talks, because she brings the WHOLE person into it.  It isn’t about the tools you have in the bag, it is about having integrity in what you do.  Living and doulaing in harmony with your beliefs about birth.  Trusting birth.

I am sure there was more.  I just can’t remember right now.  I will post when the MP3s are up in the next few weeks.  If you didn’t get to go to the conference, you can still benefit from all the wisdom shared!

Trust Birth – Personal Growth

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Ok, it was AMAZING.

Really Trust Birth 2008 was life changing, I remember driving home and pondering all I had learned and thinking, how will I apply this in my life?  I was then wondering, should I be a midwife?  After a few months of praying, pondering I realized, that isn’t the path I needed to go at that time.  I then downloaded MP3′s and listened more and pondered more and it changed the way I doula and teach.

This conference was no different.  Though since I have had more experiences as a doula and Childbirth Educator, it was more meaningful, useful I guess.  During the drive home I pondered a lot and still have a lot to process.   I still feel certain I am not to be a midwife.  But I am just as certain I have a gift related to birthing and I must continue to grow that gift and love and serve expecting parents!

I think one thing I certainly learned is some tools to better balance my birth work and my mothering.    I spend too much time on the computer and have to much “to do” and often when I am with my boys, I am thinking about birth, blogs and being busy (things I have to get done)

So  I need to work on that for sure!  I am not clear on how that will happen, but I have more tools and information to help me achieve that!

During one talk someone said, “Birth is a part of each one of us or we wouldn’t be here.”  I tried to imagine birth not being a part of my life and I felt horrible inside.  I think if I didn’t have it in my life in some way, a part of me would die.  So the conference definitely reinforced that I need to be in this “business”  though I feel it is more of a calling.

Home from the Trust Birth Conference

Monday, March 10th, 2008

It was amazing and wonderful and fun!  I probably have 10 blog entries worth of things to talk about.  So this will just be an overview.

I got to room with Michelle and Celesta, midwives from San Diego.  They were so great!  I am so looking forward to Alison’s birth, Michelle is her midwife and I am her doula!  It will be so amazing to work together and support Alison in creating the birth she wants.  Thanks Alison and Sharla for not having your babies this weekend!  :)

I loved every single session I went to.  I loved every person I met.  I wish I had more time to talk to many of the women, but there were just so many lovely people to connect with and not enough time!

I am a big believer in goals.  Over a year ago I wrote a goal to meet Michel Odent.   I had no idea how that would ever happen, but I wrote it down and I did meet him at the conference and hear him speak and it was wonderful.

I must say I didn’t know who Sarah Buckley was when I saw her name (though I did once I saw her book), but I LOVED all of her sessions and I learned so many great things I can share with my Hypnobabies students!

I met so many great women from the Birth Blogging World.   In no particular order…

Hathor the Cow Goddess, who inspired me to rewrite my birth stories, edit them a bit.

Christy a fellow ICANer and KMOM another ICANer, who doesn’t have a blog, but has a great website, we had fun hanging out at the ICAN table together!

Laureen another ICANer who spoke about the power of Web 2.0 in making changes in the birthing world.  It made me SO excited to post some videos I have waiting in the wings… they should be up in the next week or so.

I didn’t get a chance to meet Pamela, but she was there and I love her blog!

Laura Shanley, gave a great talk on how the power of our beliefs shape our birth.  That was right up my alley!

I also met Rixa, I really loved what she had to say about intuition and then the last talk she gave about different paradigms of birth, I have so much to say about all of those things! I am going to buy the MP3 of her other talks.  I love how smart she is!  :)

I wish I had found more time to sit and chat with Rixa and “Hathor”.  If they lived closer they could come to park day with me and my friends and then the three of us could be the weird mother earth ones who sit together and talk about birth and nursing.  I am sure my park day friends would appreciate the break from my enthusiasm.  ;)

Overall I would say that I love and understand birth even more than I did.  I trust birth more and hope I can better support my students and clients in their paths to create the best births for themselves!

Trust Birth Conference

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

One of my goals this year was to go to this conference.  I will be there on Friday.  There are really going to be the most amazing topics and people there.  I am SO excited.  When I was picking out my topics I kept telling DH all my choice.  I said, “Honey, there is a PLACENTA class!”

He was not impressed.  But understood that I was.  He is a sweetie to let me go to these things.  It is the great thing about being a Hypnobabies Instructor and doula, I can write this off as a business expense!

Anyway, if anyone wants to come, you can still sign up.  If you are a fellow birth blogger, look for me there!

Here is a note from Carla regarding the conference…

Here is the absolute truth.  I did not put this conference together because I needed something to do.
I wanted to give you this amazing experience.
I am emailing one last time. I simply don’t want you to miss it.
I am incredibly sad when I think about what you will be missing if you aren’t here.
There has never been another conference like it before…..
and although I would hope that this is the first of many like it…..
I won’t be the person planning and paying for it.
I won’t be putting my family in debt for any other conference.
Did that before. You would think that would have taught me a lesson….but the fist one was only $2200 in ‘88. More than $10,000 on the 94 conference.
Somehow hitting the “more than $50,000″ mark for this one made my words:I will never do another conference….my word, if you know what I mean.
So…NOT because of the red ink flow around here…..but because I woke up this morning (I actually slept from 5 am
To after 10 am!!!!) thinking of how completely different this experience is going to be…this is NOT your average midwifery or doula or childbirth educator conference.
This is a birth conference……a birth truth conference.

This is NOT just a gathering of some of the most incredible speakers in the world.
It is not just a very unusual mix of experts and personalities….who are both speakers and attendees.
It is not just a list of compelling topics.
It is not just the beautiful location.
There is something else…..that I cannot define, but I know is at work here, that is going to make this conference different.
And something else that I can define and I know it is at work because it is that thing in me that wants to give my best.
AAMI students who have never been a part of any other program may not realize it so much, but those who have been in
Other programs or schools sure notice.  We give WAY beyond what we advertise and continue to add benefits, revise, upgrade, expand options.
In other words, we never stop trying to give you MUCH more than you thought you were getting.
This is the same kind of endeavor.
I have not cut corners.  This is going to be a first class conference.
And I am still working on making it better.
But you only have one week to get here.  Everything starts a week from today.

Here are some reasons why this is an incredibly unique opportunity.

On Wednesday and Thursday you can sit for some challenging exams.  The Midwifery Scholastic Achievement Test is
A fairly difficult test but what else would you expect from us?  We are also offering 4 topic specific Academic Proficiency
Exams.  They are VERY affordable….great test taking practice and CAM and MEAC have approved them for CEUs.
On Thursday you could opt for Karen Strange’s neonatal workshop or Shonda Parker’s herb workshop OR
The Baby! Film Festival. All day and into the evening (see babyff.com for schedule and registration) and the amazing Amy
who is Abby and Ricki’s assistant fast-tracked my request for The Business of Being Born for me, so we are going to be able to
Show that as well!  By the way anyone can take the pre-cons (or attend the Film Festival or Business of Being Born and pay at the door)
€€
The Mommy Track is an incredible opportunity for those who are not yet making money as a birth professional in any way to
Come to part of the conference at a discount.
€€
We have 4 of the Half Price but Strings Attached scholarships left.
€€
We are still offering discounts to groups of 3 or more and discounts to chiropractic college students, nursing, or med students.  A couple of
Free class options exist for journalists or chiropractors.
€€
This is a  small conference and we have seven classes per track; class size is small.  You won’t get lost in the crowd.                                                                                                                                                You will have many opportunities to get to know some incredibly Interesting people.                                                                                                                                                                                        There are midwives coming from all across the country and at least one from Australia and one from the UK.  That makes me so happy!
€€
The location is incredible. Literally across the street from the ocean.  Good food is within walking distance.
€€
The dinner on Friday night.  Oh my goodness.  This is no typical banquet with a piece of dry chicken.  This is full blown buffet.  Dress up.

€€
The raffle. The silent auction. Academia Mania. Straggler’s Dinner. And MORE!!!!!!!!!!!
€€
I get so excited thinking about meeting you..or seeing you again…the love for birth and mothers and babies that will be in that place on those days.
Words cannot describe what a JOY that will be for all of us.  I have already warned the hotel that the air there will be changed while we are there.
I cannot image that they have ever had that much truth come in their doors at any time
€€
