“When I get back, I want her on pit too.”

How often is this said in hospitals across America?

A mom on the Hypnobabies Yahoo Group shared this story.

I’m planning my 3rd homebirth (and 4th Hypnobabies birth) but 2 weeks
ago felt like I had a UTI.  My DH is in the military so I went to see
my primary care manager at the local Naval Hospital.  They, of course,
handed me off like a hot potato to L&D upstairs and wanted me to be
monitored and checked since it was triggering some contractions.  I
was less than 36 weeks and had preterm labor with my first, then 2
precipitous (2 hour) labors with #2 & 3 so I was fine with that.

While I was sitting in the waiting room the on-call OB walked up to
the nurses’ station and I overheard the following conversation:

OB:  So, we have 4 in labor right now?
Nurse: Yes, 4.
OB: Are they all on pit?
Nurse:  All except room 3, she’s not on pit.
OB: Well, I’m going to lunch.  When I get back, I want her on pit too.

It was amazing, just like a stereotypical clip from “The Business of
Being Born”.   *sigh*  I’ve heard good things from several mamas who
have given birth there, but this particular conversation was just
disheartening.
