Alzheimers and Birth

Fear of Alzheimers

My grandma has alzheimers and the gene that is related to it.  So my mom and I are a bit worried about us getting it one day.   She got this book and DVD set, Change Your Brain, Change Your Body.  There was a questionnaire in there to help determine our risk of getting it.

It was a bit scary to take that quiz. Did we really want to know this?

We fall in the medium to high risk.  I am a little higher at risk, because I have had a head injury.

OK, it was not reassuring.   So do we do nothing and just worry, what if I get it?  Is it too scary to even think about? Do we stick our heads in the sand and pretend it doesn’t exist?

Can we Prevent it?

Or do we read the rest of the book and figure out what we CAN do to help prevent it.  There are things we can do.

Here are a few changes I can implement that will lower my risk.

  • Eat healthy
  • Exercise 3 times a week
  • Take fish oil supplements

So I WILL choose do them.  If I get alzheimers, at least I know I have done all I can.  OK, maybe I won’t know, because I won’t remember.  😉

It made me think about cesareans.

30% of moms who are pregnant today will end up with a cesarean.

That is not reassuring to know.  So should you do nothing and just worry, what if I have a cesarean?  Is it something to scary to even think about?  Do you stick your head in the sand and say, “Oh well, what happens will happen.”

Can You Prevent It?

Or do you learn some more and find out what you CAN do to help prevent it?  There are things you can do.

Here are a few simple things to help prevent an unnecessary cesarean.

  • Educate yourself.
  • Choose your care provider and birth location carefully.
  • Gather tools so you can go un-medicated as long as you feel comfortable.

You can learn more about all these things in my free book The Top Three Tips to Enjoy Your Birth.  Download your copy today, because you want to enjoy your birth.

If you do these things and still end up with a cesarean, you will know you did all you could do to prevent it.  And you will remember.  🙂
