I am thinking of becoming a doula, so I’d love to know how you make it work with childcare and all.
I think the hardest part about being a doula is the un-predictability of when and how long I will be at a birth. I am lucky enough to have 4 friends who I feel comfortable dropping my boys off at their house at a moments notice. Also my husband has his own business so in a pinch I can count on him. Unless he is out of town, then it is a bit more stressful. That is when my friends fill in the gap. 2 times I have had to call friends in the middle of the night to come over because DH was gone and I was called to a birth.
Without my amazing friends and flexible DH I honestly don’t know if I could do it. After 4 years, I am more relaxed about being on call and really trust that it will all work out the way it is supposed to.
