Doulas help lower Cesarean Rates

There is a new study of the benefits of doulas out.

It has some pretty impressive results.

Of interest to me regarding cesareans:

Mom’s with doula’s had a 13.4% cesarean rate vs 25% of moms without doulas.

Mom’s who were induced also had a lower cesarean rate than those without a doula.

Mom’s induced with doula 12.5% cesarean rate vs Mom’s without doulas 58.8%.

Sometimes as doulas we are sad to see our clients get induced (often, mom is reluctant, but feels she has “no choice”) but we of course support the mom in her choices.  This study to me shows how important a doula’s support is, especially in an induction.

I found this last comment VERY telling.

On questionnaires the day after delivery, 100 percent of couples with doula support rated their experience with the doula positively.

I highly suggest you go read the abstract of the study yourself!  Research doula’s if you are pregnant.  Interview some and then decide what is best for you!
