I love this post at Birth Sense “Thank you for touching me”
Where she talks about the high tech tools out there to determine position of the baby, dilation, etc. But how moms long to be touched and how they need that, especially during birth.
Now, I think we can all agree we would happily skip the vaginal exams, but I would prefer a person to do one then have
the CerviLenz®, a device that is used to objectively measure the length of the cervix. A thick rod, about the size of a long knitting needle, but blunt on the end, is inserted into the vagina and lies along the outer edge of the cervix. Then a small lip on the rod slides down to the tip of the cervix. You lock the lip into place once it touches the cervix, remove the rod, and voila! You have an objective cervical measurement.
Mmm, sounds lovely.
I think of how at hospital births the nurses are so focused on the machines and the mom is sitting on the sidelines.
It is all about HER, not the machines!
