You have it right with the shower. I also like walking around anywhere but the hospital room, but if I am in the hospital, I want to be upright. I do not like sitting on anything much when I am laboring (but maybe the toilet). I have to get up. I don’t like being down or sitting during a contraction, I cope better upright. Pushing, I do end up on the bed somehow, but before that, I prefer pacing, pacing, pacing. Of course, at home, I labor pacing too, checking the computer, and trying to rest on my couch which lasts a few contractions and then back to pacing.

The hard floor doesn’t sound fun. But whatever works for the mom!
Moving during birth is so great!
For me I paced between a hot shower and sitting backwards on the toilet!
