If you have more then one child, you have this problem.
How do I organize waiting clothes?
Clothes don’t fit T1 – but are still to big for T2, so where do I store them? You can see here, I sometimes just throw them on a shelf high up in their closets.
I also have been somewhat more organized and have them in overflowing boxes as well!
I am lucky that my mom lives near 2 outlet stores. So she will buy things for the boys, even T1 still and send them to me. So I get to store those too.
I got down ALL the boxes and lose clothes. I got some empty boxes and a sharpie and got everything all organized and back in the appropriate closets!
Being organized and especially having empty boxes to put the outgrown clothes in, really helps!
I have been inspired to do this 52 weeks of Organizing by Organizing Junkie!
What systems do you have for storing clothes for your kids?
My brother has two boys just a few years older than my two (and his are also 19 m/o apart), so he hands down all his kids’ outgrown clothes to me. I’ve also gotten other hand-me-downs from a few other people through the years. My brother gives me too many clothes for 2 or even 3 boys at once, so up till now, my organizational system has been buying huge bins to store the unworn clothes in my shed (I sell, toss, or give away my younger son’s outgrown clothes); then every change of size/season, I go through the massive amount of clothes for that size, and pick out what I want and/or what the kids act like they like, and put the rest back for the younger one and/or “just in case.” For instance, I would keep clothes that my younger son *could* wear, even if he never *did* wear it, finally getting rid of it after he outgrew that size. [I always figured that he might need the clothes if we happened to have a fire or tear his preferred coat.]
Now, I’m moving halfway across the country, and I decided I did not want to keep so much stuff, so I went through it all, keeping just the things I wanted. Well, actually, both boys expressed preference for some things while not liking others, so I let them pick out what they wanted. Some of the things surprised me, because I thought they’d want one shirt when they didn’t, and then they’d pick a different one that I thought they wouldn’t like. {shrug}
So my current clothes storage is that all of their clothes for this year and next year fit in *one* bin (I probably got rid of 3-4 big bins of clothes). Yeah!
My plans for the future depend on what our house/apartment looks like once we get moved out there. I will definitely have to keep better track of what I have, so that I can buy (at yard sales and thrift stores, preferably) only what I need, rather than ending up with 25 shirts and only 2 pairs of pants and no coat. Keeping a list of what they have will be beneficial in that regard.
My current system is keeping my son’s outgrown clothes in a pile next to his dresser (between end of dresser and wall) until I get around to bagging them up and giving them to my sister for her son. Hmmmm…. I probably need to add rethinking that “system” to my list of organizing projects for this summer! 😉
I’d love to have you join me each week for Tossed It Tuesday— a weekly check-in on what we’ve decluttered each week. This post would fit right in– feel free to drop by and link up!
At least you HAVE a system. 🙂
You can buy empty packing boxes if you don’t have any at hand. Buying little one’s clothes that are durable but without compromising the quality is of great essence. Get such from a reputable firm that offers good quality clothes that are able to stand the test of time.
