Birth Control – I took Your Advice!

Since I got my IUD out and DH is not on board with having another baby, we needed some kind of birth control.

My Current Birth Control Options –

Ha, Birth Control???

I have narrowed down to 3 choices.

Spermicide

I had pretty much decided on Spermicide as my method of choice.  I loved Vaginal Contraceptive Film before. It worked great between my other babies.

But sadly, I am finding it really makes me itchy afterwards.  Ughh.  A day of itching isn’t worth it.

Condoms

So we tried some more natural condoms (non latex) and that is OK.  I don’t love it, but better than itching for a day.

Fertility Awareness Method

But I am really excited about Fertility Awareness Method.  (No it is not the rhythm method)  I am reading and loving Taking Charge of Your Fertility. (Review coming later in the week)  I am also using the FemCal App and loving that.

I have over 2 cycles charted now and DH actually felt confident enough (after looking at my charts) to use nothing on “safe” days and we have been using condoms on possible fertile days.

Thanks to all my readers who suggested the book.  I love it!

  1. Careful, I used cycle beads and tracked my cycle and on the last safe day was pregnant. Stay in the middle safe days and make sure your cycles are the right length

  2. I absolutely love that book too. I use it to practice NFP instead of FAM (ie abstinence instead of condoms lol) but still. Great book 🙂 I like their software too (Ovusoft). Charting is so much easier for me on the comp than on paper 🙂

  3. Sheridan, you should look into the Lady Comp, it takes all the work out of natural birth control/charting 🙂 This is what I will be using when it’s time.

  4. Ugh. Read that book 15 years ago while trying to get pregnant. (You’ll notice my oldest is only ten). Spent months taking my temperature, tracking my period, etc. etc. Didn’t work. I do not have trackable periods.
But glad it’s working for you! I’ll stick with the IUD.

  5. I could see that it wouldn’t work for everyone. I think it is a totally different animal using it for birth control vs using it to get pregnant. Though it can work for both for some people.

  6. I used TCOYF/charting to get pregnant both times, and we’re trying it again. That book is such a great education about the female system.
