Reflections on my Summer

Ahh, the quiet of the first day of school.  The boys are all off at their respective schools.  The kitchen is clean and I sit at the dining table with my pile of things that have been neglected over the summer.  And I reflect.

When I looked at the calendar at the beginning of summer I knew that this summer would be over in a flash.  It was full of fun things.  We did everything fun we wanted to, except the Discovery Science Center.  Maybe the next rainy Saturday we will go.  I loved the unstructured days, the not needing to drive anywhere, the friends coming over, seeing T1  become really independent and growing up.  This was the summer when he got wings.  He would ride his bike to his friends neighborhood and spend the whole day there, coming home for dinner (most nights)  T2 was jealous of course, but I assured him, in a few years that would be him.  Though he doesn’t have a gaggle of boys to hang out with like T1.  But maybe that will appear for him by then.

T3 learned to swim this summer.  I can sit in a chair and watch him swim.  I watch him like a hawk, but haven’t needed to help him even once.  He just swims like a little fish.

The boys were all ready to go back to school, to see old friends and make new ones.  T3 was wondering who would ask him to be friends today.  T2 and I were encouraging him to ask others to be friends.

The only thing I am not looking forward to with this school year is the driving.  I love Journey school, but I don’t love the drive.  It is so worth it, but can be overwhelming.  I look forward to next year when T3 is in 1st grade, so we only have to drive 2x a day instead of 3x.  At least I have Angela and Amy to carpool with.  I may go insane (or pay for kindy aftercare) if I didn’t!

So, it was a wonderful summer, I will have to go back and blog more all about it.

But the highlights –

  • Cub scout camp, T1 and T2 were both orange shirts this year (volunteers)
  • Scout Camp
  • Pool
  • Beach
  • Beach Club
  • Kids Are Music Shows
  • T2 earned his Arrow of Light and Bridged to Scouts
  • T2 turned 11
  • T1 did his Eagle Scout Project and is working a little each week to get his write up done.  He is well on his way to make his goal of becoming an Eagle Scout by 14.
  • Lots of playdates for T3
  • We finished summer up with a bang with a trip to Utah!
