I am not talking about yoga positions, I am talking about mentally.
It is so important to educate yourself, plan and prepare for a wonderful birth. However it is just as important to remain flexible and open to whatever may happen during your birth.
Birth is unpredictable. There is no way to know what is going to happen. If you are educated and have a great birth team, you will be able to make the best choices for you and your baby every step of the way!
Here are 2 great posts and one other resource about this topic.
Accepting the Unexpected
I also talk about it in my book The Top Three Tips to Enjoy Your Birth. You can download your free copy here.
I just wanted to echo that being prepared and informed can help you to achieve the perfect birth. I gave birth to my son 2 1/2 weeks ago and was planning a home birth with a CNM. But due to circumstances- such as being quite overdue 42w5d and a poor NST after I had noticed decreased movement, we ended up with a hospital birth. It was still a beautiful experience and I got to decide how the induction would occur, and even got to stop the Pit after a few hours and my body continued to labor naturally. I still got to have a wonderful, natural childbirth but it was different than I had imagined. We had taken Hypnobabies and being informed helped us to make decisions we hadn’t necessarily thought we would be faced with but felt comfortable making all the same. It was the perfect birth for us.
So glad you had a positive birth experience. Yours is a great example of being flexible and how that can help you have a good birth, even if it isn’t what you planned!
I completely agree. Having the tools to stay calm and present in the face of births unpredictability is so important. This can include having a great birth team at the time of labor and delivery, but also preparing and practicing these techniques beforehand in a childbirth education class, meditation or prenatal yoga class.
