I wanted to share a really easy blogging tip for you!
Look at what your permalinks look like.
What is a permalink? It is the address a person types in to get to a specific post.
Here are 2 examples of permalinks.
- http://thebirthbug.wordpress.com/2011/01/18/when-shall-we-weigh-the-baby/
- http://www.themidwifenextdoor.com/?p=1375
Can you tell the difference?
The first example has the title words in the permalink. This helps in a few different ways.
- You know what it is about before you click it.
- Those key words go out into “Google land” which allows searches to better find your posts!
The second has just a number to represent that post. What is it about? How will Google know to share the information with the world?
Is it good that you only have a number? I don’t think it is. It is the default way to organize blogs, but
- it doesn’t benefit your readers
- it doesn’t benefit your blog either
So, is it hard to get keywords in your permalink?
NO, it is really EASY.
If you have a WordPress blog – go to Settings and then permalinks and you will see your options there. If you have a different type of blog then Google it to find out how to change your permalink.
I hope this helps some of you to get your blog posts more easily found in Google Searches. So more women can have better births!

Thanks for the info! I saw the title in the permalink, but I didn’t realize that it was good to have it that way! Now if I ever start another blog, I’ll have to make sure it does it like that!
